Hmmm ... I may have this in the big bookcase in the rec room. And I think I may have read it in my teen years, but I don't recall anything more than you've described on your post. I feel rather as though it would be cheating for me to read it for Writers of Color 50 Book Challenge, though - although it sounds as though I should re-read it for my own sake if I still have it.
