I thought the omission of category romances was odd myself, though Woodiwiss did bring on the "mainstream" romances. (And admittedly, most of the romance novels I read are historicals.)
For paranormals...that was my reaction, too. But then, when paranormals were starting to get big, there was a series where the heroes "unintentionally" created a mind link with the heroines when they met that bound the heroines to them for life and made them obey the heroes. It actually threw me out of romance novels altogether for a few years.
