I don't think I'd ever encountered anything that bothered separating them until I started watching dramas a few years ago.

I found the emphasis on mixed-race kids being beautiful odd myself, but I suspect some of that may have been Headley's feelings for her own kids seeping through.

I've had all of her books recced to me, but haven't read them yet.
