I never said Edith was pathetic! It's abundantly clear in the text that she has lived and is still enjoying her life, though the big regret there is the loss of her daughter, for reasons she hasn't been given a chance to understand. It's tremendously sad, to me, but doesn't make Edith some pathetic old woman! I just find it so powerful and painful to see what effect Joss' decisions - and the society he made them in - had on her. She was probably my favourite character.
You're right on the language, wasn't thinking; changed it to "who is revealed after dying to be a biological woman". I do sort of feel like the word transgendered doesn't fit here, in that I agree Joss would not have used the term himself...hopefully the edit works, let me know if you think it doesn't!
