Also, reading the review you link, I can say how I so didn't experience it like that. For me the anti-science in that book was representing the opposition to western-based, "conventional" science. It was a way to show that in Ross time, colonial, respectable science was done in a very racism, classist environment where white rich male scientist got all the credit when they used a lot of people of color (well, Ross, working in Calcutta sure did). Or was what I got from that book.
