This is no children's story, despite the cover.
A gritty graphic novel story of two little girls, Lily and Lee, one white, one black, who live in an alternate 1930's Mississippi where the swamps hold monsters. When the Lee's father is accused of the Lily's disappearance (into the gullet of a swamp monster, only witnessed by Lee), Lee goes on a quest to prove him innocent before the lynch mob arrives.
That's when it really starts getting weird, with spirits in the shape of murdered children, dogs with shotguns, etc., and it's not always clear who's on what side in the matter.
It's a weird but interesting tale. I have volume two on pre-order right now, can't wait to see what happens. Recommended.
