(I'm running on almost no time tonight, but I want to make sure I get this one in before I forget about it!)

sanguinity, I went and snagged Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry from my local library. It's been years since I read it; I first read it in, I think, 4th grade, and I remember being absolutely stunned by it at the time. What I remember more, re-reading it now, is that I actually got it, which I think is an absolute miracle of this book. I was maybe eight or nine and I understood what was going on in the book, why the land was so important, why T.J. was in such trouble and what was going to happen to him... instead of going back and feeling like I was reading a wholly different book, I was reading the same book I'd discovered in my childhood and remembering how shocked I was as a kid, reading this book for the first time.
What I also remember is that I didn't make it through the sequels. I'm going to give it another shot.
