I'll have to look up Sweet Whispers, Brother Rush - the thing about June Jordan's book is the omniscient narrator uses Black English also, it's something she wrote for an audience of Black teens like the kids she was teaching then. Like I said, I haven't ever tracked down a copy of the book, but she wrote an essay about it that is in her collected essays.
Another Black English source, again not current use, but really excellent and beautiful, is any of August Wilson's plays.
I think comic authors tend to be younger and more nerdy, so they use Standard English more than activist types who grew up under segregation or are less school-oriented. If you find more comics that use Black English, please post them!
