I've heard that the Eugene Woodbury fan translation (see list (http://pengiesama.livejournal.com/102092.html)) is more elegant. I haven't read the Tokyopop translation to compare for myself, but I did enjoy the Woodbury translations.
And yes, Sugimoto and Asano I think was anime only.
