26. Thich Nhat Hanh, The Miracle of Mindfulness
This is an excellent meditation manual, written during the Vietnam War when Hanh went into exile to protest the war. As well as many meditation techniques, it features some translated extracts from sutras.
27. Jewelle Gomez, The Gilda Stories
If I say "lesbian vampire of colour," you'll probably expect something campy, but that's not what this book is about. It's a serious historical novel telling the main character's life story over 200 years, starting with her escape from the plantation in 1850, and concluding in the year 2050.
This book is amazing. I recommend it highly.
