There's already quite a few good reviews of this book on this community, so I'll just link to a rather rambling post I wrote about it on my lj.
Also, if you liked this book you might like Looking for Alibrandi, a YA book about a young italian-australian girl finding herself etc, it's more serious and meaty but still entertaining. It's very well known here, I remember it being pretty good, and it has a passable film adaptation. It's not about or by POC, but still explores some of the same ideas of identity and "the migrant experience" etc.
