50books_pocKitchen was very much off the beaten path for me - a gentle, dreamy, lilting 1988 novella of sadness and love (and lots of Japanese food and tea :). The delicate attention to details, especially colours, reminded me a bit of Sei Shōnagon's classic Pillow Book, which I read a little of now and again to soothe my tired mind.
