Welcome post
Aug. 22nd, 2007 11:59 amWelcome, welcome.
I have given myself a personal challenge to read fifty books by writers of color by next year's International Blog Against Racism Week (for more info on IBARW, go to the wonderful
ibarw).
I've set up this comm is for anyone who'd like to join me.
There are few rules, and no formal templates to follow for posting. Just read, and post, and repeat 50 times. 8-)
Help? I could use some icons… The default for the comm is from the cover of This Bridge We Call Home: Radical Visions for Transformation, the feminist anthology edited by Gloria Anzaldua and Analouise Keating, a followup to the groundbreaking This Bridge Called My Back, edited by Anzaldua and Cherrie Moraga in 1986. I've read the first one and will be re-reading it alongside second. Watch this space. 8-)
Questions? Suggestions?

Date: 2007-08-29 04:38 pm (UTC)How about a collection of essays which includes ones by POC?

Date: 2007-08-29 05:03 pm (UTC)I managed to pull more than 50 books by POC from my personal library that I've been hanging on to for years without actually reading. And that's only the ones by people of color, sheesh. I may make another challenge to myself to read all the books I own! What a concept.
Collections of essays are okay (my rules are pretty loose here). I've got anthologies I keep for ONE story or essay -- so if you feel the essays by POC in the collection ought to be read, by all means post about them.

Date: 2007-08-29 08:01 pm (UTC)I don't have a lot of SF/F, but I think the only writer of color I have in my SF/F "pile" is Delany. I'm working on that.
Libraries are good. 8-)

It looks like the only POC who shows up with any regularity in my SF&F library is Michelle (Sagara) West. Eh, how embarrassing.

Date: 2007-09-13 10:57 pm (UTC)Um, I am an obsessive-compulsive tagger/cataloger, so I was wondering if you were considering adding obsessive-compulsive type tags and Memories to the comm? By author, type of book, poster, etc.? Also, if you do not feel like doing it (I don't want to make more work for you! Esp. since this comm is so awesome! I am getting so many recs already!), I would definitely be willing to obsessively tag/Memories everything, but only if you are ok with giving me that access! I promise I will not touch anything else.
Yay! Books!
Ten-year anniversary
