Masquerade (Blue Bloods, #2) Masquerade by Melissa de la Cruz (Hyperion, 2008)

I know it's fluff. I know they're not literature. But gee, I'm enjoying these books. This one probably even more than the previous one, which surprised me in a way, as I wasn't expecting to like this one *more* than the first.

I may have driven [livejournal.com profile] mab2701 slightly batty by reading out all these bits and pieces when Bliss and Mimi were trying on designer dresses for the 400 Ball, and again when Schuyler's entrance was described. It's not like I'm nutty about fashion, either, but the descriptions were just so luscious and Gossip Girl and fantabulous...

I know little to nothing about angelology, so I'm sure there are a lot of nuances in de la Cruz's choices for who manifests particular angels (a key theme of this book), but I know enough to draw a fairly deep breath when the identity of Azreal was revealed, followed by saying "awesome!". Meanwhile, when I got to the twist at the end of the book, I was sitting in the workroom, and let out a long, low 'ooooooh.' As this was muttered in the middle of a gossip session by some of my co-workers, it got an interesting response...

Anyway. I continue to adore Schuyler and Bliss (and I think I've even managed to work out how to spell Schuyler's name now). Kingsley Martin, a new character, is... fascinating. And very interesting. And even though Jack Force has the potential to be nothing more than a Ken doll (and okay, sometimes that's exactly what he is) there's usually at least some substance to him. And he's NOT an Edward Cullen. By a long shot.

In other words: I'm still really enjoying the series, I'm *very* glad that I've got Revelations sitting at home waiting for me, and I haven't yet regretted picking up the series, not even when there was a really triggery scene and then a character had to relive said scene. (I'm getting better at skimming over the top where I need to.)
